The 25-year-old former Arsenal player was absent not only from the starting XI but also from the matchday squad altogether, raising eyebrows ahead of the vital fixture. Newcastle United addressed the speculation with a brief statement confirming the nature of Willock’s injury:
“Joe Willock misses out this evening due to a concussion. Speedy recovery, Joe.”
